As the economic trouble in the U.S. continues, many retail businesses have a valid concern about the economys impact on the holiday shopping season. Retail businesses need to find ways to attract as many new customers as possible to make up for customers they will lose, or customers who may not be spending as much as they have in previous years. When the discussion turns to attracting new customers, advertising is always a key factor.

With the economy struggling, many companies are looking to reduce their advertising budget as they try to reduce costs throughout the organization. As the holidays approach, businesses now need to consider not only which merchandise to stock, and how much, but how they are going to draw customers with a reduced advertising budget.

Most retail establishments already have a budget for shopping bags, which are used to package customers purchases. Smaller businesses often use generic bags, because they are less expensive, but they are passing up the opportunity to advertise with the use of promotional bags.

There are many promotional items your business could choose to distribute to your customers. The use of promotional items has proven to be effective, which is why so many businesses use them already. This may be a bigger investment then you wish to make in advertising dollars though. Almost all large retail businesses know the value of promotional shopping bags, and their advertising benefit, which is why they use them already. As a small retail business, investing a percentage of your advertising expenses in promotional bags should be given serious consideration. If your small retail business is in a shopping mall, or a strip mall, every customer who leaves your store, and goes into other stores, will be advertising your business, which may lead to more traffic in your store. The more traffic your retail store has almost always translates into more sales.

Promotional bags provide you a unique opportunity to advertise for your business with each purchase and not only that but since you will be already buying bags, why not spend a few extra cents and have them imprinted with your custom logo on them? This is money well spent in the current economy.
