Rev. Dr. Glen asked:

The problem is that I am very ignorant of computers. Feel my tiny ministerial experience at a very, very small church, nursing home, and prison is not enough. My hope is to have internet ministry, post short sermons, accept prayer requests, give away tracts and Bibles, and promote Good News of Jesus Christ. I am ordained, have master’s in religious philosophy, and Ph.D. in history from Auburn University.

Talked to Yahoo about establishing a web site, but even after lengthy talk not sure how would work, such as webpage and advertising. Would want to promote myself as an evangelist, and the church and its service.

Yahoo mentioned local advertising. I am saved Christian wanting to promote Good News of Jesus. Do any of you have experience with websites? Can they reach respectable numbers? If so, how? Specific advice greatly appreciated.

    Dr. Glen,

A great deal of churches and ministries are already on the internet, so you aren’t proposing anything really new.

To really make a presence, you will need people with significant technical skill as well as significant financial backing to advertise and attract people to your site.

From your description, it doesn’t sound like you have those kind of resources. Even if you got a website, you probably wouldn’t get much traffic to it without advertising.

I think you may be best thinking of other ways to promote your ideology – using the old fashioned face-to-face methods.

Use software such as GO TO MEETING….

What this allows you to do is have a web cam where you preach from, and people can sit in on your service at their leisure on their computers.

    Great idea Reverend!!!!…

This is really already being done. Check out also alot of the mom sites have that on them. God will direct you though.

good idea. there is alot of money to made in religion. Maybe try setting up a membership fee. With the tax exemptions that churches get, this could turn into something lucrative. Good luck and keep that entrepreneur spirit.

I think limiting yourself to yahoo might be a mistake. Perhaps if you were to start a blog of some sort. However you can start a yahoo group and invite your friends first. I would check websites like COIN: Christians On the InterNet or the web evangelism bulletin for clues
